Meet Jake Mumford
Jake Mumford is the owner and head trainer at Anvil K9. He is NePoPo Gold Certified (the highest certification level in the NePoPo balanced training system developed by Bart Bellon) and an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator. Every dog that comes through Anvil K9 is trained personally by Jake. No assistants, no franchise hand off, no revolving door of employees running the programs.
Jake started Anvil K9 because the dog training industry had gotten loud, confusing, and ideological. Owners kept telling him the same story: they had tried a class, tried an app, tried a YouTube method, and their dog was still impossible to live with. The answer was not another lecture. The answer was a dog that actually listened, trained in a real environment, with clear rules and an owner who knew how to maintain it.
Our Training Philosophy
We are a balanced training program. That means we use food, toys, praise, a flat collar, a prong collar, and a remote collar (e-collar), all introduced with care and conditioning. The goal is clear communication so the dog understands exactly what is being asked and what is expected. Nothing is hidden from the owner and nothing is used as punishment.
We do not do fluff. We do not make dogs perform tricks for applause. We build dogs that are reliable off leash, calm in the house, polite on the leash, and a joy to take anywhere. Clear, fair, consistent. That is the whole playbook.
Why Board and Train
Board and train works because it removes the variable that most training programs cannot control: you. No disrespect. Training a dog while simultaneously learning to train a dog, while also working a job and running a household, is a brutal combination. Board and train lets us install the foundation fast, in a controlled environment, at a pace that actually sticks. Then we hand the dog back to you along with the knowledge, the tools, and the support to keep it.
Every program ends with a handover session. You come in, you learn the commands, you learn the tools, and you leave with a dog that responds to you. Lifetime support is included at no extra cost, so if something comes up a year or five years later, we are still here.

Community Partnerships
Anvil K9 partners with East Ridge Animal Services in Chattanooga to support local rescue dogs. We help shelter dogs build the obedience and impulse control they need to land in good homes, and we stay available to adopters who need follow up once a rescue is placed.
